The campaign opened its public fund on February 12, 2012 with a target of $15,000. Twenty days later, 333 contributors in Greece and around the world had given $20,352. The volunteers did not handle the money themselves: Loudsauce collected the contributions and paid for the media placement.

A Greek American billboard owner made Times Square possible by offering the screen at a steep discount. The digital placement stood at 1560 Broadway, between 46th and 47th Streets, and ran for thirty days. Its animated frames used Charis Tsevis’s photographic mosaics to deliver one direct invitation: “Join Us in Greece.”

The physical screen was only half the strategy. Supporters photographed it, shared it online, and gave reporters a hopeful counterpoint to the crisis headlines. The New York Times, CNN, Mashable, and Greek media carried the story far beyond Times Square.
